Doggie Day Care
Written by Seann Sackett
Doggie day care is a relatively new service being offered in your town. It is a great service to offer your dog as a way to keep them well socialized to other dogs. This is important, as we can do many things for our dogs, except be a dog.
They need to interact with members of their own species, to give them confidence, exercise their bodies and minds, and of coarse, have fun. This company of other dogs promotes a sense of well being that can only be accomplished at a doggy day care or dog park. Puppies and toy breeds tend to do better in the safety and controlled environment of a indoor doggy day care.
Visit a few places to see what they offer. Do they go for walks during the day? Do they have a nap or break time? Do they separate dogs by size or at least by like temperaments? Make sure the place is kept clean, the dogs are given fresh water, and there are no odors present.
Look at the dogs there, they should all be having fun and given attention. It is a good idea to tour the facility and stick around a while to see the routine and behavior of the other dogs. An attendant should be available at all times in case a dog needs help making friends.
Doggy Day Care is also great for new puppies trying to master housebreaking or potty training. We will keep up with any dog training currently underway. Leaving a puppy home for too many hours may create separation anxiety and fear of being left alone. Boredom of being home alone usually channels itself into destructive or obsessive behaviors like barking, digging, or chewing up furniture. So why not see what its all about, go check out a doggy day care in your area and introduce your dog to some new friends.
